The Green Bridge is Gdańsk’s oldest bridge. Its construction was completed in 1564. From the very
beginning it was a drawbridge, located at the crossing of the most important traffic and trade routes of Gdańsk
(the Motlava river and the road to Sambia). It was reconstructed a number of times throughout centuries. It
was destroyed during the second world war, and after it was rebuilt it ceased being a drawbridge due to the
tramcar line. Currently it is a pedestrian bridge.

The Granary Island is located in the fork of the Motlava river and its cross-cut – the New Motlava. The
first granaries were built approx. 1330. The specific location of the granaries was dictated by the necessity to
protect their contents from thefts. The island was completely off-limits after sunset, and it was protected by
packs of dogs at night. It was destroyed almost completely in 1945 during fights between Wehrmacht and the
Red Army. It was never restored to its former condition. Only a handful of granaries have been rebuilt so far,
and a district of new buildings has been added.

The Baltic Philharmonic A complex of 19th century power plant buildings, located on the Isle of Ołowianka,
adapted to the requirements of the Philharmonic in 1998-2005.
The Crane Gate A historic port crane built in 1444 in Flemish gothic style. It is one of the oldest port cranes in
Europe. Built as a crane and defence gate, it lost the military significance in 17th century. Window apertures
were made in the crane walls, allowing for workshops to be located there. The Red Army set fire to the Crane in
1945 when the city was seized, and it was reconstructed at the end of the 1950s. Since that time it has enjoyed
the status of the best known symbols of Gdańsk.

Sienna Grobla is a residential district at the mouth of the Motlava river in the area of the so called “Polish
Hook”. In former times the favourite recreational spot for rafters, who gave it the name. Since the location was
of strategic importance, a stronghold existed there until the 19th century. After that the object was pulled
down, and a recreational park was built in its place. In 20th century the place was dominated by the ship

The Dead Vistula river is part of the Leniwka Vistula river. It was formed as a result of a shift of the river
bed. The name stuck to this section of the river in 1840 when as a result of ice jam the river found a new outlet
to the Gdańsk Bay (the Śmiała Vistula river).
Communities of rushes are found there, and the place has been earmarked for establishment of a special
environment site. Here one can find salt marsh aster, sea milkwort, cotton thistle, Gerard’s rush, arrow grass.
